Émile Du Châtelet and her <i>Examens de la Bible</i>: a radical clandestine woman philosopher

Émilie Du Châtelet is the only French woman author of a work included in corpus clandestine philosophical literature: set treatises, dissertations, or letters that circulated Europe, and especially France, mainly manuscript form, during seventeenth eighteenth centuries, main purpose which was to subject religion rigorous rational criticism (philosophical, historical, scientific). These Examens de la religion, one most controversial works this corpus, century gave rise form legend: sometimes said be Châtelet, result collaboration between whose life she shared for long time: Voltaire. If feminine point view on Bible played role recent attribution text existence properly writing wider context literature can now discussed. This article aims put debate into perspective, at both methodological level.
